Introduction
The ultimate purpose of God's power is not merely to solve human problems, but to reveal His glory. In Matthew 15, Jesus ministered to a great crowd of people who came with every kind of need. The mute spoke, the crippled were restored, the lame walked, and the blind received their sight. The result was not applause for Jesus as a miracle worker alone, but that the people glorified the God of Israel.
Many people seek God only for what they can receive. However, every blessing, miracle and answer to prayer should lead us to worship, honour and glorify God. Our lives should become living testimonies that point others to Him.
What Does It Mean to Glorify God?
To glorify God means:
To honour Him above all.
To acknowledge His greatness.
To publicly testify of His goodness.
To live in a way that reflects His holiness.
To give Him all the credit for what He has done.
Psalm 115:1 says:
"Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory."
God deserves the glory because every good thing comes from Him.
Why Did They Glorify the God of Israel?
1. They Witnessed His Transforming Power
The people saw lives completely changed.
The blind saw.
The lame walked.
The mute spoke.
The crippled were made whole.
No human ability could accomplish these miracles.
Whenever God transforms a life, He deserves the glory.
2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us that anyone in Christ becomes a new creation. Salvation itself is the greatest miracle.
2. They Recognised God's Compassion
Jesus never ignored those who suffered.
Earlier in Matthew 15:32, Jesus said:
"I have compassion on the multitude."
God is not distant from our pain. He sees our struggles, hears our prayers and cares deeply for His children.
Every act of God's mercy deserves our gratitude.
3. God's Works Were Visible to Everyone
The miracles were undeniable.
When God works in your life:
Your character changes.
Your family notices.
Your workplace notices.
Your community notices.
Our transformed lives become evidence of God's power.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:16:
"Let your light so shine before men... that they may glorify your Father which is in heaven."
How Can We Glorify the God of Israel Today?
1. By Living a Holy Life
A sinful lifestyle dishonours God.
Our conduct should reflect His character.
1 Peter 1:15-16 calls believers to be holy because God is holy.
2. By Giving Thanks Continually
Gratitude glorifies God.
Many receive blessings but forget the One who gave them.
Like the healed Samaritan in Luke 17, let us always return to thank God.
3. By Sharing Our Testimony
Your testimony strengthens others.
When you tell people what God has done, faith is built and God receives the glory.
Never hide God's goodness.
4. By Worshipping Him Wholeheartedly
Worship is more than singing.
It is surrender.
It is obedience.
It is placing God first in every area of life.
5. By Pointing Others to Christ
The greatest way to glorify God is by leading people to Jesus.
Our words, actions and lifestyle should draw people to Christ rather than ourselves.
Things That Prevent People from Glorifying God
Pride, taking credit for God's blessings.
Forgetfulness after receiving miracles.
Complaining instead of thanksgiving.
Living in sin after experiencing God's mercy.
Seeking God's gifts more than seeking God Himself.
The Results of Glorifying God
When God is glorified:
His presence increases among His people.
More lives are drawn to Christ.
Our faith becomes stronger.
Others receive hope.
God entrusts us with greater blessings because He knows we will honour Him.
Conclusion
The crowd in Matthew 15 did not leave talking only about miracles. They left glorifying the God of Israel.
The greatest evidence of God's work is not simply that we receive blessings, but that our hearts become filled with worship and our lives reflect His glory.
May every answered prayer, every breakthrough, every healing and every victory become another reason for us to glorify the God of Israel.
Let our lives declare every day:
"Not unto us, O Lord, but unto Your name be all the glory."
