Introduction
Peace is one of the greatest gifts God gives His children. The world longs for peace, yet it looks for it in wealth, success, relationships, power and possessions. However, true peace cannot be found in external circumstances. It comes only from the Lord, who is called the Lord of peace.
Paul concluded his second letter to the Thessalonian church with a powerful prayer. The believers were facing persecution, false teachings and uncertainty, yet Paul did not merely pray for their problems to disappear. He prayed that the Lord Himself would give them peace at all times and in every situation. This reminds us that God's peace is not seasonal or occasional. It is available every day, in every circumstance.
What is God's Peace?
God's peace is the calm assurance that He is in control, regardless of what is happening around us. It is confidence that His promises remain true even when life becomes difficult.
Jesus said in John 14:27:
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you."
The peace Christ gives is different from the temporary peace the world offers.
Three Truths About Peace at All Times
1. Jesus is the Source of True Peace
Paul refers to Him as "the Lord of peace."
Peace is not produced by favourable circumstances. It comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ. Without Christ, people may experience temporary comfort but never lasting peace.
Isaiah 26:3 says:
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee."
The closer we walk with Christ, the deeper our peace becomes.
2. God's Peace is Available at All Times
Paul prayed that the Lord would give them peace always.
This means:
Peace during abundance and lack.
Peace during sickness and health.
Peace during waiting and fulfilment.
Peace during celebration and sorrow.
Peace during uncertainty about the future.
God never promised a trouble-free life, but He promised His presence through every trial.
Psalm 46:1 reminds us:
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
3. God Gives Peace by All Means
Paul also prayed that God would give peace "by all means."
God may bring peace through:
His Word.
Prayer.
The Holy Spirit.
Godly counsel.
Worship.
The encouragement of fellow believers.
His divine intervention.
No matter the situation, God has countless ways to quiet the troubled heart.
Things That Steal Our Peace
Many believers lose their peace because they allow certain things to control their hearts.
Fear of the future.
Anxiety and worry.
Sin and disobedience.
Unforgiveness.
Negative thoughts.
Doubt and unbelief.
Whenever these things dominate our minds, peace begins to disappear.
Philippians 4:6-7 teaches us to replace anxiety with prayer, and God's peace will guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
How to Live in Peace at All Times
1. Trust God completely.
Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts.
2. Stay connected to God's Word.
The Scriptures strengthen our faith and calm our hearts.
3. Pray about everything.
Prayer exchanges our worries for God's peace.
4. Keep your mind focused on Christ.
Do not allow circumstances to become greater than your faith.
5. Walk in obedience.
A life surrendered to God enjoys the confidence of His presence.
Conclusion
The Christian life is not free from storms, but it is never without peace. When Christ is in the boat, the storm may still rage, but our hearts can remain calm.
The Lord who calmed the sea is still able to calm troubled hearts today. His peace is available at all times, in every circumstance, and through every means He chooses.
May the prayer of Paul become our daily experience:
"Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all."
