Introduction
The Christian life is a journey of faith, not by sight. Every believer will encounter seasons of joy, trials, uncertainty and waiting. In such moments, the greatest temptation is to loosen our grip on God's promises. The writer of Hebrews encourages believers to remain steadfast because our confidence is not in our strength but in the faithfulness of God.
Holding firmly to the declaration of faith means refusing to abandon what God has spoken, regardless of circumstances. Faith is not merely spoken once, it is lived consistently.
What is the Declaration of Faith?
The declaration of faith is our public confession that Jesus Christ is Lord, that His Word is true, and that His promises are certain. It is the unwavering conviction that God will do exactly what He has said.
Romans 10:9 teaches that our confession of Christ brings salvation. Therefore, our confession is not only for the beginning of our Christian walk but throughout our lives.
Why Must We Hold Firmly?
1. Because God is Faithful
Hebrews 10:23 says, "For He who promised is faithful."
God has never failed in keeping His promises. His faithfulness is not determined by our circumstances.
Examples:
God fulfilled His promise to Abraham despite his old age.
Joseph's dreams came to pass after years of suffering.
God's promise of a Saviour was fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
When situations seem impossible, remember that God's faithfulness remains unchanged.
2. Because Trials Will Test Our Faith
James 1:2-3 tells us that the testing of our faith produces perseverance.
The enemy seeks to make believers doubt God's Word. Difficulties are not evidence that God has abandoned us. Instead, they are opportunities for our faith to mature.
Every genuine faith will be tested before it is promoted.
3. Because Our Confession Shapes Our Direction
Proverbs 18:21 declares that life and death are in the power of the tongue.
Believers should speak God's promises rather than their fears.
Instead of saying:
"Nothing good will happen."
Declare:
"God is working all things together for my good."
Instead of saying:
"I cannot make it."
Declare:
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Faith speaks God's truth even before the evidence appears.
4. Because Others Are Watching
Our steadfastness becomes a testimony to others.
When people see believers remaining faithful during hardship, they witness the power of Christ.
Paul and Silas worshipped in prison, and their faith led to the salvation of the jailer (Acts 16:25-34).
Your perseverance may become someone else's encouragement.
How Can We Hold Firmly?
1. Stay Rooted in God's Word
Romans 10:17 says that faith comes by hearing the Word of God.
A believer who neglects Scripture will struggle to stand during difficult times.
2. Maintain a Life of Prayer
Prayer strengthens our spiritual resolve.
Jesus instructed His disciples to watch and pray so they would not fall into temptation (Matthew 26:41).
3. Fellowship with Other Believers
Hebrews 10:24-25 encourages believers not to neglect gathering together.
Faith grows stronger in the company of other faithful believers.
4. Remember God's Past Faithfulness
David faced Goliath with confidence because he remembered how God delivered him from the lion and the bear.
Remembering yesterday's victories strengthens today's faith.
5. Refuse to Waver
James 1:6 warns against doubting.
Faith remains steady because it trusts God's character, not changing circumstances.
The Rewards of Holding Firmly
You will receive strength during difficult seasons.
God's promises will be fulfilled in His perfect time.
Your testimony will inspire others.
Your relationship with Christ will become deeper.
You will receive the reward prepared for those who endure faithfully.
Conclusion
The foundation of our confidence is not our ability but God's unchanging faithfulness. Circumstances may change, people may disappoint us, and challenges may arise, but God's promises remain true forever.
Today, decide to hold firmly to your declaration of faith. Do not allow fear, delay or disappointment to silence your confession. Continue trusting, believing and declaring God's Word, knowing that He who promised is faithful and will surely bring His promises to pass.
